Historical Background
Akshaya Tritiya is considered the most auspicious day in the Vedic calendar, requiring no astrological muhurta. On this day, the Treta Yuga began, the Ganges descended to earth, and Parasurama appeared. It also marks the beginning of Chandana Yatra (sandalwood paste festival) for the deities.
Spiritual Significance
"Akshaya" means "imperishable" — any charity or spiritual activity performed on this day yields eternal, never-diminishing results. The day falls on the third day of the bright fortnight of Vaishakha.
