Historical Background
Gaura Purnima celebrates the appearance of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who is Lord Krishna Himself appearing in the golden complexion of Srimati Radharani. He took birth in Sridham Mayapur in 1486 AD as the son of Jagannath Mishra and Sachi Devi. His mission was to establish the sankirtana movement — congregational chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra — as the yuga-dharma for the age of Kali.
Spiritual Significance
Lord Chaitanya is the most merciful incarnation, freely distributing the highest spiritual nectar of Krishna-prema (love of God) to all without distinction. He is known as Vishwambhara, "one who maintains the universe," and appeared for the liberation of all fallen souls.
Blessings & Benefits
Participating in Gaura Purnima celebrations brings the special mercy of Lord Chaitanya. Sponsoring the abhishekam, deities' outfits, or the grand feast invokes His blessings and helps you advance rapidly in Krishna consciousness.
