A wonderful instance of book distribution in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, where famous Olympic medalist and athletic star Mrs. Susanthika Jayasingha received the Sinhalese translation of Bhagavad-gita As It Is.
An Unexpected Encounter at the Temple
The day before elections, devotees set up a book stall in Laksmi Narayana Temple in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. All of a sudden, the crowd became excited seeing famous athletic Olympic medallist and ex. world record holder Mrs. Susanthika Jayasingha entering the Temple, accompanied by election candidate Mr. Priyanda Patiran.
After taking darshan of the Lord, she passed by the book stall, and devotees gave her the Bhagavad-gita in Sinhalese, explaining that this book would bring her good luck. With great interest, she looked at the book.

Preaching Ahimsa and Spiritual Alternatives
The political leader standing nearby commented that he already has this book and is a vegetarian. This led to a discussion on the Ahimsa principle in Buddhism and how the people of Sri Lanka could lead a self-sufficient lifestyle without animal killing or external dependencies.
Susanthika Jayasingha was very impressed by the straightforward presentation of Krishna consciousness. She promised to read Bhagavad-gita as she bowed down in respect to the devotees. As Srila Prabhupada showed, presenting spiritual principles strongly to leaders can influence and benefit the whole of society.
