Philosophy General

A discourse demonstrating why morality without a spiritual basis is short-lived, and how developing love of God provides the only stable platform for ethical values.

The Dispensability of Morality

Moral principles promote order, like traffic laws. But modern education doesn't teach the goal of life. Consequently, people give up morality when circumstances threaten or tempt them. The incessantly glorified goals of modern consumer society — fame, wealth, luxuries — encourage immoral behavior. When people are bombarded by materialistic allurements, morality appears dispensable.

Love: The Basis of Morality

Vedic texts assert that morality without spirituality is baseless. To achieve lasting morality, we need systematic spiritual education centered on developing pure love for God. Love for God results in love for all living beings. When we find inner happiness in God, we are freed from selfish, lusty, and greedy drives, making morality the natural choice.

Higher Morality of Krishna

Someone might object that Krishna sometimes acts immorally. But Krishna is the source of all morality, and He acts out of selfless love. His stealing butter is a childhood pastime to reciprocate motherly affection, and His prompting the Pandavas to break codes in battle is to serve a higher purpose: removing the corrupt Kauravas and establishing the rule of righteousness.
